Dyslexic and Grateful

Most people don’t know that I am dyslexic.

For most of my life I have looked at my dyslexia as a learning disability, because after all, that’s what it’s considered. Right? Wrong.

I read the book, David and Goliath by Malcom Gladwell, and it opened my eyes to realize that what some consider a disability, is really a strength. I don’t have a learning disability, I just learn differently. And because I learn differently, I am able to teach and lead others differently.

I’m unique. Well…as unique as all other people with dyslexia.

I see things differently. I process things differently. I break down large complex problems into small manageable projects. I can accomplish much by dissecting and splicing.

Yes, I read slow and I write even slower because my fingers can’t keep up with my brain. People that read fast (like my son), and those that type fast (like my friend Todd), will always amaze me. But they do not define me because I can’t do those things. I simply move at my own speed, in my own way.

I’m a fighter. I don’t give up. And I keep going despite challenges. For that is all I know!
