To What Shall We Die?

Jesus said, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone;”

He is referring to Himself and the mission that God gave Him to fulfill. Jesus knew that He would have to let Himself be killed in a very painful death before He would rise again and fulfill God’s plan for Him.

Was it easy? No.

We see elsewhere in Scripture, where Jesus pleaded with His Heavenly Father to find a different way. Here, in this passage, we see Jesus admit that His soul has become troubled. But He pressed forward and obeyed His Heavenly Father to accomplish the greatest mission ever accomplished on this earth.

Spiritual Principles
We must let go of this life and embrace what God has to offer us through Jesus Christ. He who loves his life will lose it. (John 12:25). Christ’s plans for us now and in eternity are so much better than what we think it will be.

What must we give up? Jesus gave up comfort, health, acceptance, in order to fulfill God’s plan. I have to give up selfish plans and ambitions focused on glorifying me.

Business Application

  1. Die to ourselves. Just like Jesus struggled, so too will we struggle with this.
  2. Surrender our dreams. Abraham had to surrender his dreams when he offered up his most prized possession, his son. But God delivered and blessed him. Is your dream more important than your commitment to God? I know I struggle with this and continually have to surrender my dreams to Him!
  3. Align ourselves physically, spiritually, and moralistically with Christ. He said, “if anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there my servant will be also.” (John 12:26). Do you find yourself far from Jesus? It’s time to come back.
  4. Let go of things that are holding you back. Jesus surrendered His plans and fears and moved forward with God’s plan. What is holding you back?
    1. Fear
    2. Doubt
    3. Hatred
    4. Unforgiveness
    5. Worry
    6. Sin
  5. Live and work to glorify Christ. When we glorify Christ, we glorify the Father.

Prayer

Lord, I am weak and unable to accomplish anything apart from you and your sovereignty. I surrender my plans, fears, and doubts to you. I ask that you show me where you are, that I am join you every step of the way. Lead me Lord.
