Do Good But The Good Won’t Save You

Most people I’ve met have the desire to do good. They want to be good at what they do. They want to do good deeds for others. They want to be known as a good person.

This is good.

But being good is not the answer that we need to fill the void in us and to satisfy the longing to know that we are in good standing with the God who made us.

Jesus Himself said that no man is good. We have all sinned. We have all done bad. And the God who created us doesn’t use a scale when he looks at our actions to see which outweighed the other, good or bad.

Jesus said that He is the only way to the Father. He is the only solution to overcome the bad we all have in us. No matter how many good things we do, it would not be enough.

So do we stop doing good? No way.

Once we come to Jesus, accept Him as our Lord and Savior, and submit our lives to Him, we are saved. Once save, we are filled with the Holy Spirit and given a whole new motivation to do good.

May they say about our lives what they said about Jesus, “And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written.” John 12:25 NASB
