Listen to the description we are given about Jesus in His final hours.
“Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come forth from God and was going back to God,” John 13:3
He’s at the pinnacle of His life on earth. All the miracles had been performed (except for His rescue reaction), all the people had been fed, and He was enjoying His last supper with His disciples.
What did He do then?
He took a cloth and washed the feet of His disciples. The same ones He knew would flee just a few hours later including Peter who would deny Him three times. He even washed the feet of the one who would betray Him.
What a great challenge we are given. How can we serve one another? What does that look like? What tasks do we consider too lowly to perform?
“If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you. Truly, truly, I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor is one who is sent greater than the one who sent him.” John 13:14-16
May we all prayerfully consider what God is calling us to do in our own lives to live out this universal principle of service. Is there a brother or sister in Christ who needs your help? Ask God to show you where you can serve others this week.
